John Legend is an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and actor. He was born on December 28, 1978, in Springfield, Ohio, and was given the name John Roger Stephens at birth.

Legend began playing piano and singing gospel music at a young age. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied English and African American literature, and also served as the musical director for a co-ed a cappella group called Counterparts.

In 2004, Legend released his debut album, “Get Lifted,” which included the hit singles “Used to Love U” and “Ordinary People.” The album was a critical and commercial success, earning Legend three Grammy Awards.

Since then, Legend has released several more successful albums, including “Once Again,” “Evolver,” and “Love in the Future.” He has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including Kanye West, Alicia Keys, and The Roots, and has won a total of 12 Grammy Awards.

In addition to his music career, Legend has also acted in several films and television shows, including “La La Land” and “The Voice.” He is also involved in several philanthropic efforts, including education and criminal justice reform.
