Dan Gable is a former American wrestler and wrestling coach who is widely considered to be one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. He was born on October 25, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa.

Gable was a standout wrestler in high school and college, winning two Iowa state championships and then going on to win a gold medal in wrestling at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. He went undefeated throughout the entire tournament and did not give up a single point.

After retiring from competition, Gable became a wrestling coach and led the University of Iowa wrestling team to unprecedented success. He coached the team from 1976 to 1997 and during that time, the team won 15 NCAA championships and produced over 150 All-American wrestlers.
