He is best known for his role as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Pontypridd constituency in Wales. Smith served as the MP for Pontypridd from 2010 to 2019. During his time in Parliament, he held several shadow cabinet positions, including Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and Shadow Secretary of State for Wales.
