An earthquake is a sudden shaking or trembling of the Earth’s surface caused by the release of energy in the Earth’s crust. Earthquakes occur around the world and can happen at any time. Countries with high seismic activity, such as Japan, Mexico, and Indonesia, have developed advanced earthquake warning and preparedness systems to help mitigate the damage and loss of life caused by these events.
