Yeonmi Park is a North Korean defector, human rights activist, and author. She is best known for her memoir, “In Order to Live: A North Korean Girl’s Journey to Freedom,” which details her harrowing escape from North Korea and the struggles she faced after resettling in South Korea.

Park was born and raised in North Korea under the rule of Kim Jong-il and Kim Jong-un. She and her family lived in poverty and endured widespread hunger and political oppression. In 2007, Park and her mother escaped from North Korea, crossing the border into China and eventually making their way to South Korea.

After her escape, Park became an outspoken advocate for human rights in North Korea, speaking out against the regime’s oppressive policies and calling for international intervention. She has testified before the United Nations and other international organizations, sharing her own experiences and advocating for the rights of North Korean refugees.

Park’s memoir, “In Order to Live,” has received critical acclaim and has been translated into over 20 languages. In addition to her advocacy work, she continues to speak publicly about her experiences and the ongoing human rights crisis in North Korea, in the hope of bringing about change and raising awareness.
