Rick Doblin is an American psychedelics researcher and the founder and executive director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), a non-profit organization that advocates for the medical and therapeutic use of psychedelics.

Doblin was born in 1953 in Chicago, Illinois, and received his bachelor’s degree from New College of Florida in 1973. He then went on to earn a Ph.D. in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government in 2001.

Doblin founded MAPS in 1986 with the goal of developing medical, legal, and cultural contexts for people to benefit from the careful uses of psychedelics. Over the years, MAPS has played a leading role in advancing research on psychedelics, including MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD, psilocybin-assisted therapy for depression and anxiety, and ibogaine-assisted therapy for addiction.

Doblin has been an important voice in the movement to legalize and destigmatize psychedelics, and he has worked tirelessly to build bridges between the scientific community, policymakers, and the public. He has been recognized for his contributions to the field with numerous awards and honors, including the 2021 Heffter Award for Advancing the Science of Psychedelics.
