Neil deGrasse Tyson is an American astrophysicist, author, and science communicator. He was born on October 5, 1958, in New York City, and grew up in the Bronx. Tyson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics from Harvard University in 1980, and his PhD in Astrophysics from Columbia University in 1991.

Tyson has made significant contributions to the field of astrophysics, particularly in the study of star formation and evolution, as well as the structure of our Milky Way galaxy. He has written several popular science books, including “The Pluto Files” and “Astrophysics for People in a Hurry,” and has hosted and appeared in numerous science-related television shows and documentaries.

Tyson has been a strong advocate for science education and public outreach. He served as the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York City from 1996 to 2018, and is currently a research associate at the American Museum of Natural History. He has also been a frequent guest on talk shows and news programs, and has been a vocal critic of science denialism and pseudoscience.

Tyson has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to science and education, including the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal and the Isaac Asimov Award from the American Humanist Association.
