Tulsi Gabbard is an American politician, former U.S. representative for Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district, and a former Democratic candidate for President of the United States.

Gabbard was born in American Samoa and raised in Hawaii. She was first elected to the Hawaii House of Representatives at the age of 21, becoming the youngest person ever elected to the state legislature at the time. She later served in the Hawaii Army National Guard and was deployed to Iraq in 2004 and Kuwait in 2008.

In 2012, Gabbard was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where she served for four terms. During her time in Congress, Gabbard was a member of the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees. She was also known for her opposition to U.S. military intervention in foreign conflicts, including the wars in Iraq and Syria.

In 2020, Gabbard launched a campaign for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, but suspended her campaign in March of that year and endorsed Joe Biden.

Gabbard is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has been recognized for her work on environmental issues, veterans’ affairs, and healthcare reform. However, she has been a controversial figure at times due to some of her views on foreign policy and her past stance on LGBTQ rights.
